Dr. Mahera "Mimi" Philobos

Dr. Mimi Philobos received a B.A.
in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cairo, Egypt in 1979, a MS in
Aerospace Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Engineering Science and Mechanics, in 1983
and 1994 respectively from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Since earning her doctorate, Dr. Philobos has been a faculty member in the
School of Civil and Environmental engineering. In 1997, she was appointed
Director of the College of Engineering’s Women in Engineering (WIE) program. She
established a suite of externally funded benchmark recruitment and retention
programs that have been heralded as a national model. Her accomplishments have
been widely recognized by many prestigious Institute and student awards, most
recently the Faculty of the Year Award in 2006 and the Georgia Tech women of
Distinction Faculty Award in 2001.
